Back to School

Kira started second grade today. Once again, we are so lucky that she has a great teacher. We are looking forward to another great year for her.
Keenan isn't in school yet but he goes to preschool/child care so he participated in the all that goes along with the first day of school . . backpack and all.

Keylee's hair is long enough for little braids (kind of). She is talking a lot (although we cannot understand most of what she says). She is running a lot (although she seems to fall a lot too). She is always on the go. Joe and I are exhausted by her energy.

A RIGHT OF PASSAGE

Doesn't every five year old boy have to get stitches? If so . . . . mission accomplished. Today, Kira and Keenan were at Joe's school with Joe while he was putting a desk together. They took parts of the box and made a mess. Joe gave them a broom and asked that they clean up their mess. Do they clean up their mess? No. But, Kira thought it would be a good idea to swing the broom around. The broom hit Keenan in the eye and Joe recounts that blood was everywhere. They were off to get stitches. This entire incident was harder for Kira to handle than Keenan. When I met up with Joe, Kira and Keenan, at the doctor's office. Kira was hysterical crying but Keenan was not crying at all. Kira asked me how long she was grounded. First, she has never been grounded so I was not sure why she thought she would be grounded. Second, I advised her that she is not going to be grounded because it was an accident. Kira responded "I should be grounded, I have scarred my brother for life." The sisters giving Keenan a kiss to make him feel better.

KEENAN'S BUTTER LOVING BEHAVIOR

Keenan is so much like his Dad except when it comes to butter. It is so funny to me (and disgusting to others) that Keenan will swipe the butter stick when I am baking and take a bite or he will walk by the tub of butter and stick his finger in for a quick bite. This butter loving behavior is the same behavior I had as a child. My Mom continues to remind me of my love for butter as a child when she sees Keenan doing the same things now.
Evidence of Keenan taking the butter . . . . and a bite before I snatched it from him.

MUTTON BUSTIN'

Kira wanted to do the Mutton Bustin' at the Kaw Valley Rodeo. They took the first 15 children to sign up. Joe and Kira went early to ensure she would get a spot. She had a great time and got a mouth full of dirt when she fell off. A video of the event:

VEGAS BABY!!

We traveled to Vegas with friends this past week and we had a great time. It was hot and my friend Debbie had blistered feet to show for it. Here are a few pictures and I will post more in the days to come.
The historical "Welcome to Vegas" sign. I apologize as the sun was going down and some of the pictures are hard to see. We finally found an Elvis. You would think since it is Vegas there should be an Elvis at every corner. There is not and we had to search for this one.
We stayed at the Luxor. Our rooms were on the 22nd floor. Yikes it was high.
This was our first night there. We were headed to the Venetian to eat and then to Jersey Boys. I LOVED the Jersey Boys. The show was amazing.
A picture of Joe and I in our hotel before hitting the streets for Jersey Boys.
Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville: What a great place to eat. The atmosphere and entertainment were great. The food was fantastic.
Overall we had a much need vacation. A huge thank you goes out to my parents who stayed with and spoiled our kids. When we got home our daughter Kira started crying. When I asked her what was wrong she said "these are tears of joy." Then, she said "I am so happy you are home, but I am so sad Grandma and Umpa are leaving." I am sure she gets her sweetness from me. Yeah right.

Go - Go - Power Ranger

Keylee found Keenan's Power Ranger Halloween mask. She was so funny trying to growl at people with her mask on.
